Ge 8:4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.

The location was specifically mentioned to show the historicity of what happened. Moses' readers can go to the site and see for themselves the ark resting on the mountain ranges of Ararat.

Many ancient writings bear witness of people who had gone to the resting place of the ark and had seen it for themselves with their own eyes. God caused the ark to rest on the cold and high mountain ranges of Ararat to preserve the ark for many generations.

It serves as a testimony to God's judgment on sin.
